Speaker of the House of Representatives Borjana Krišto and Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH Ognjen Tadić met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary

Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH) Borjana Krišto and Speaker of the House of Peoples of the PA BiH Ognjen Tadić met today in Budapest with the Speaker of Hungarian National Assembly Lászlóm Kövér at the 8. Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of Western Balkan countries.

Speaker Krišto thanked Mr. Kövér for everything that Hungary as a member of the European Union (EU) and a member of the Visegrad Group is doing for BiH on its path to European integration. In this regard, she especially thanked for the successful completion of the Twinning project for strengthening the role of parliaments in the process of European integration in 2016.

Speaker Krišto informed the Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary on the fact that there is a permanent internal political and legal uncertainty in our country, and the denial of the rights of the constituent peoples to legitimate representation which, according to her, led to the failure to enforce the Decision of the European Court of Human Rights and the judgment of the Constitutional Court of BiH. According to her, if Bosnia and Herzegovina does not implement primarily the judgment of the Constitutional Court and does not change the Election Law, it will be possible to call and hold the General Elections in 2018, but not to implement electoral results. Unfortunately, she said, there is still no political will in BiH to address these issues.

Speaker of the House of Peoples of the PA BiH Ognjen Tadić said to Mr. Kövér that today many people share concerns about the future of the EU, underlining that the presence of other world powers is largely felt in non-EU countries, and not just the presence of representatives of the official Brussels.

Mr. Tadic conveyed to the President of the National Assembly of Hungary concerns of BiH citizens when it comes to the new conditions of the accession to the EU citizens from the countries that are not members of this community. In this connection, Tadić expressed his hope that Hungary will make additional efforts in its foreign policy, that these conditions, if introduced, are implemented in the shortest possible period.

Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary László Kövér pointed out that Hungary provided and will in the future provide full support to the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina. As he said, it is not only the interest of Hungary, but also other EU members. According to him, the integration of BiH into the EU will also mean the mitigation and resolution of many internal political disagreements in BiH. (End)
