Chair of the PA BiH Delegation to PAM, Rejhana Dervišević, participated in the 4th Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement in Tashkent

The Chair of the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PA BiH) to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), Rejhana Dervišević, participated in the 4th Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in Tashkent (Republic of Uzbekistan) as part of the 150th IPU Assembly.

The conference was dedicated to marking the 70th anniversary of the Conference in the Indonesian city of Bandung and the adoption of the Bandung Principles, which confirmed the foundations of respect for basic human rights and the principles of the United Nations Charter, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations, and the recognition of the equality of all races and peoples.

In her address to the conference participants, Dervišević, as a PAM envoy, emphasized that the conference provides an opportunity to reaffirm the joint commitment to the Bandung Principles, which are the foundation for defending the values of humanity, solidarity, and respect for the rule of law. According to Dervišević, these values represent the core of PAM's mission and mandate and are embedded in the Mediterranean Charter adopted by the parliaments of PAM member states in 2008.

Dervišević highlighted that these principles are now seriously endangered, and that democratic institutions and social cohesion are facing numerous and significant challenges, including increasing disregard for the United Nations Charter and provisions of international and humanitarian law.

At the same time, Dervišević said, the world is facing issues such as the unregulated use of artificial intelligence and new technologies; widespread campaigns of disinformation and fake news; irregular migration flows often encouraged by criminal organizations to the detriment of migrant security, especially women and children; insufficient action in the fight against climate change and environmental degradation; and disruptions in international trade.

Assessing that a long road lies ahead in confronting these challenges and solving these issues, particularly achieving full equality and gender equality, Dervišević called on the participants to remain committed to the letter and spirit of the Bandung Principles and the United Nations Charter.
