Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Marinko Čavara, participated in the 28th Eurasian Economic Summit held in Istanbul, organised by the Marmara Group Foundation

"Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Marinko Čavara, participated in the 28th Eurasian Economic Summit, held in Istanbul and organised by the Marmara Group Foundation.

On the second day of the Forum, during the session titled “Peace and Dialogue”, Deputy Speaker Čavara addressed the participants and delivered a strong message on the importance of preserving peace and the need for dialogue among stakeholders in the decision-making process.

“Peace should never be taken for granted – it must be built, nurtured, and defended every single day,” said Čavara. Recalling his personal experience from war-torn Bosnia and Herzegovina, he emphasised that wars leave deep scars which are felt for decades.

He warned of the declining role of diplomacy, the rise of populism, and increasing mistrust between nations, underlining the urgent need to restore genuine multilateralism and strengthen the role of the United Nations. “It is our responsibility to build relationships based on solidarity, mutual respect, justice, and shared interests – and to protect life in every circumstance,” he stressed.

Speaking about current global crises – wars, climate change, scarcity of natural resources, and rising poverty – Deputy Speaker Čavara stated that “the desire for peace is not a weakness, but rather the highest expression of strength, wisdom, and humanity.” He called for dialogue that builds bridges of understanding and cooperation rather than walls between peoples.

In conclusion, Čavara expressed his gratitude to the organisers, especially the President of the Marmara Group Foundation, Dr Akkan Suver, for their tireless efforts in bringing together global leaders to discuss the key issues of our time.

The Eurasian Economic Summit brought together numerous heads of state, senior officials, representatives of international organisations, academia, and civil society. This year’s summit focused on peace, dialogue, sustainable development, and global cooperation." (Statement issued by the Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Marinko Čavara)
