Members of the BiH PA Delegation to the NATO PA participated in the 107th NATO PA Rose–Roth Seminar in Brussels

Chair of the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH PA) to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), Kemal Ademović, and Deputy Chair of the Delegation, Marina Pendeš, took part in the 107th NATO PA Rose–Roth Seminar held at the European Parliament in Brussels.

On the second day of the seminar, participants focused on the challenges of democratic resilience in a broader European and global context, with special emphasis on the Eastern Partnership countries and the Western Balkans region.

At one of the key sessions, titled “Euro-Atlantic Integration: Challenges to Democratic Resilience in Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, and the Western Balkans,” participants exchanged views on the current accession processes and security challenges faced by these countries.

Speakers included NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood Javier Colomina, and Mathieu Bousquet, Director for Enlargement Coordination, Strategy, and Investments at the European Commission.

It was emphasized that the Western Balkans region remains an area of strategic importance, where it is essential to further strengthen resilience against disinformation, hybrid threats, and foreign political influence. NATO remains active in the region and continues to provide support, particularly in the areas of reform and strengthening of the security sector through cooperation with the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was noted during the session.

NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General Javier Colomina, with whom the members of the BiH PA Delegation met in Brussels, specifically addressed the issue of a potential veto on the extension of the EUFOR Althea mission mandate. He emphasized that NATO would not allow any security vacuum to emerge in Bosnia and Herzegovina and that it is ready to act should such a situation arise.

In the context of Euro-Atlantic integration, Mathieu Bousquet, Director for Enlargement Coordination, Strategy, and Investments at the European Commission, commented on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, noting that the country was the last to submit a proposal for the reform agenda. He attributed this delay to coordination challenges between different levels of government. The European Commission will analyze the submitted document and forward it for further procedure, Bousquet said.

The seminar was concluded by NATO PA President Marcos Perestrello and the Head of the European Parliament Delegation to the NATO PA, Salvatore De Meo. They thanked all participants for their constructive discussions and emphasized that the views exchanged and conclusions drawn during the seminar provide a valuable basis for further strengthening joint security policy and democratic resilience among allies and partners.
