Delegates of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Želimir Nešković and Marina Pendeš Participate in the Parliamentary Dimension of the Berlin Process in London

Delegates of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PA BiH), Želimir Nešković and Marina Pendeš, participated in the parliamentary dimension of the Berlin Process, held in London, which brought together parliamentarians from the Western Balkans, the United Kingdom, and the Federal Republic of Germany.

The meeting, hosted by the Parliament of the United Kingdom and organised by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and the UK Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, focused on three thematic areas crucial for the future of the region’s relations with the United Kingdom and Europe – security, migration, and economic growth.

Participants discussed how parliaments can support the priorities of the Berlin Process to foster regional cooperation and prosperity. The opening address was delivered by the UK Minister for Europe, Stephen Doughty, and the discussion saw active participation from PA BiH delegates Želimir Nešković and Marina Pendeš.

In his remarks, Nešković emphasised the need for a coordinated approach and the strengthening of regional cooperation, taking into account the specific circumstances of each Western Balkan country, as well as the importance of maintaining stability, security, and respect for human rights. According to him, migration, which presents a range of challenges from humanitarian and security to socio-economic, is an issue that transcends borders and the individual capacities of countries in the region.

Delegate Marina Pendeš, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to exchange views with colleagues from the region, the United Kingdom, and Germany on key issues, highlighted that parliamentarians, acting together, should take concrete steps to achieve progress for all constituent peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The participants also discussed the role of parliaments in monitoring the implementation of commitments undertaken by Western Balkan governments within the Berlin Process, as well as ways these obligations can be met through active citizen engagement and enhanced regional cooperation.

The Berlin Process remains one of the most important platforms for promoting regional cooperation, European integration, and reconciliation in the Western Balkans. It focuses on strengthening integrity, the rule of law, and the fight against corruption as essential preconditions for stability, security, and economic development. This year, the United Kingdom is hosting the meetings and the Berlin Process Summit.
