Member of the House of Representatives and Chair of the PABiH Friendship Group for Africa and the Middle East Midhat Čaušević Meets with Iraqi Parliamentary Delegation

Member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH) and Chair of the PABiH Friendship Group for Africa and the Middle East, Midhat Čaušević, today met with a delegation from the Parliament of the Republic of Iraq during their multi-day study visit to our country.

The focus of the Iraqi parliamentarians' study visit, as well as one of the key topics of their open and friendly discussion, was knowledge-sharing regarding Bosnia and Herzegovina's experience in the process of locating missing persons.

Highlighting that Iraq is currently searching for approximately four million persons missing from wars and conflicts on its territory, the members of the Iraqi parliamentary delegation - which included representatives from all national groups - emphasized the need to establish a unified missing persons system based on legal frameworks and international community support, similar to the system established in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Sharing experiences and practices from the missing persons process, particularly regarding genocide victims from Srebrenica, Representative Čaušević expressed confidence that this visit by Iraqi parliamentarians would significantly contribute to establishing cooperation on this and other matters of mutual interest to both countries.

The meeting also discussed opportunities to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation through contacts between relevant parliamentary committees dealing with human rights and minority rights issues, as well as through exchange visits by friendship groups. (End)
