Members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the PABiH House of Representatives meet with members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Sweden

The Deputy Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH), Sabina Ćudić, and Committee member Nihad Omerović held a meeting today with a delegation from the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Sweden, which is on an official visit to our country.

During the talks, the traditionally good and friendly bilateral relations between the two countries were emphasised, further strengthened by the large Bosnian-Herzegovinian diaspora which acts, as was noted, as an important bridge of friendship and cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sweden.

The members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the PABiH House of Representatives briefed their Swedish colleagues on current developments in BiH's European integration process, particularly regarding the current stalemate and blockades on our country's path towards full membership in the European Union. The importance of Sweden's continuous support for the European Union (EU) enlargement process was highlighted, especially its support for Bosnia and Herzegovina during the granting of candidate status and the European Council's decision to open accession negotiations with BiH.

Representatives of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Sweden confirmed that Sweden will continue to advocate for the EU enlargement policy towards the Western Balkans, underlining the fact that the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina is of strategic importance for the whole of Europe.

The interlocutors agreed on the need to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation through contacts aimed at exchanging experiences on the alignment of legislation with the EU acquis.

The meeting between the members of the two national parliamentary committees was also attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to BiH, Helena Lagerlöf. (end)
