Members of the Friendship Group for Western Europe spoke with the Delegation of the German Bundestag

Mr. Sulejman Tihić, the Chairman of the Friendship Group for Western Europe in the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH and its members, Mr. Asim Sarajlić and Mr. Mirsad Mešić spoke today with the Delegation of the German Bundestag, MPs, Mr. Josip Juratović and Mr. Arnold Rainer and with the clerk of the Working Group on Security and Defence Policy of the Bundestag, Mr. Axel Schneider.

“The priorities of our foreign policy are the EU and NATO, but we have a backlog in fulfilling necessary conditions for membership,” said the Chairman Tihić, emphasizing that in BiH, it is essential to implement constitutional reform in order to establish a more functional system which would disable various forms of blockades. “It is clear that responsibility primarily lies with domestic politicians, but also, it is in the general interest for the OHR to remain in BiH”, he pointed out.

Mr. Mirsad Mešić said that the new parliamentary majority wants to reform the judiciary and public administration, create an environment for economic development in the country and BiH to join the EU; Mr. Asim Sarajlić emphasized that the main problem is the existing constitutional structure.
“In our country, the situation will start developing in a positive direction when sufficient number of people from all parties gather together to agree on changes of the Constitution and then create the conditions for economic development,” Mr. Sarajlić said.

The Bundestag representatives expressed their willingness to continue to provide assistance to BiH, noting in particular the necessity of implementing the Sejdić and Finci ruling.
According to Mr. Josip Juratović, national interests are not the problem. “The problem is to create conditions so that every citizen of BiH feels equal and that every person is guaranteed the same rights,” he concluded. (End)
