Members of the PA BiH Delegation to the IPU participating in the 150th IPU Assembly in Tashkent

Deputy Chair of the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PA BiH) to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Miroslav Vujičić, Delegation Member Ermina Salkičević-Dizdarević, and Chair of the PA BiH Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), Rejhana Dervišević, are participating in the 150th IPU Assembly, taking place in Tashkent (Republic of Uzbekistan).
Participants of the IPU Assembly, the world’s oldest and largest international parliamentary organisation, are engaging in discussions on the overarching theme titled "Parliamentary action for peace, justice and strong institutions", along with a range of other pressing global issues and challenges.
In his address during the plenary debate on the central theme of the session, Deputy Chair of the PA BiH Delegation to the IPU, Miroslav Vujičić, emphasised that equality and participation in political processes are two core principles upon which democratic societies are built.
As Vujičić pointed out, parliamentarians bear the responsibility of shaping the future of their countries by adopting laws that ensure fairness, equality, and social development. He stated that lawmakers are tasked with creating a legal framework that provides equal opportunities for all citizens to prosper, while also strengthening the oversight role of parliaments through democratic mechanisms of control over the executive branch.
Vujičić pointed out that, as he put it, parliaments today are facing a crisis of legitimacy, as democratic institutions have failed to respond to some of the major challenges of our time. Calling on fellow parliamentarians to recognise their responsibility and to advance social development and justice for all, Vujičić stressed that by renewing political dialogue, improving cooperation among political parties, and enhancing citizens’ participation in decision-making, parliamentarians must strive to restore the democratic legitimacy of parliaments and promote the development of a just society.
